Technology-enhanced learning

Transforming communication training across the health professions.

Meet Judy, the flagship of a new generation of emotionally realistic Live AI Avatars. These simulations give learners a safe, repeatable place to practice difficult conversations through natural, real-time interaction.

Flagship live AI experience

Judy demonstrates a new category of simulation

Judy represents a major leap beyond the legacy scripted projects in the archive below. She supports real-time, natural conversation with emotional and contextual variation, allowing learners to practice repeatedly in a low-stakes environment before clinical, educational or professional interactions.

Talk with Judy here

Judy is the public demonstration of the current Live AI Avatar program. She can explain the initiative, discuss potential educational applications and demonstrate how responsive conversation can support communication training at scale.

  • Real-time, natural conversation
  • Emotionally responsive voice interaction
  • Safe, on-demand and repeatable practice
  • Customizable for different curricula and specialties
  • A major advance beyond the legacy archive below

Microphone permission is required for voice interaction. Opening Judy in a new window may work better on some browsers or institutional networks.

Current live AI portfolio

Live AI avatar projects

Judy is the public-facing flagship for a growing portfolio of Live AI Avatar simulations developed across CU Anschutz and with collaborating institutions. These projects create scalable, on-demand opportunities to practice patient interactions, team communication, feedback, counseling and other high-stakes conversations. Unlike the legacy scripted archive, each experience can respond dynamically to the learner and be tailored to specific curricular goals.

  • CU Connect

Peer-support training that helps learners practice supportive, empathetic conversations in a realistic virtual setting.

  • INTERACT

An interactive feedback experience designed to help learners practice reflection, communication and response to coaching.

  • School of Dental Medicine Consent

A dental education simulation focused on clear communication, patient understanding and the informed-consent process.

  • Medical Toxicology Teleconsultation

A clinical consultation simulation in which learners gather case information, communicate recommendations and manage a toxicology encounter remotely.

  • School of Dental Medicine Avatar Suite

A collection featuring Aurora, health-assessment encounters and mental-health screening practice using the Patient Health Questionnaire.

  • Physical Therapy

Patient communication and motivational-interviewing practice for physical therapy learners.

  • Public Health

Communication simulations involving policymakers, journalists and community members across challenging public-health topics.

  • GOOD

A healthcare communication simulation supporting practice with complex clinical conversations and decision-making.

  • CAPE

Clinical-skills simulations developed with the Center for Advancing Professional Excellence, including learner and standardized-patient practice.

  • Hebrew University

A collaborative international avatar project exploring live AI simulation in health-professions education.

  • Academy of Medical Educators

Faculty-development simulations for practicing feedback, coaching and difficult educational conversations.

  • WARD

Opioid Use Disorder & Bias Recognition

  • Menopause Care

A patient-centered simulation for practicing empathetic, individualized conversations about menopause symptoms and treatment choices.

  • NURS 6286

A nursing education simulation created to support applied communication and clinical practice within the course.

New projects can be developed for any discipline in which communication, empathy, feedback or decision-making can be strengthened through realistic practice.

Legacy avatar archive

Legacy avatar projects

These projects use an earlier generation of static, scripted avatar technology. They are preserved as a legacy archive of the program’s history, subject-matter breadth and collaborative partnerships. Judy and the new live AI avatars are a substantial technological leap forward, with real-time, open-ended and adaptive conversation.

Legacy technology — not live AI

These experiences rely on pre-scripted pathways and fixed responses. They are intentionally separated from Judy so visitors can clearly distinguish the legacy portfolio from the current generation of responsive, conversational live AI avatars.
